About Robinson Farms

Robinson Farms Inc. out of Brandon, MS a member of the Southern Producers Replacement Heifer Organization will be putting in the 18th Annual Special Sale on August, 31.

Here is a little Information about Robinson Farms Inc.:

Robinson Farms Inc. began in the early 1900’s by George and Becky Robinson. They raised 4 sons, they ate what they grew, plus some cotton as a cash crop. The last cotton that was grown was “head high and the cockleburs were even taller” according to my Dad, David.

The Dairy was started with just a few Jersey cows, who were milked by hand, of course. The cream was separated and sold and the milk was fed to the hogs since there was no organized milk market, most every family had their own milk cow in those days.
David was part of the 1st marketing Cooperative in the state- Mississippi Milk Producers which I believe began in the 1950’s. In the 1960’s he and my Mom, Nell, began raising 4 sons and a daughter. He also began breeding his Jersey cows to Reg. Holstein bulls using a brand new technology- Artificial Insemination.

By the year 2000, Bob was the only son left in the Dairy, but with the use of the best genetics through AI, the best possible homegrown forages, and the use of appropriate technologies and management techniques, the Dairy herd had reached production levels unheard of 10-20 years earlier.

The Holsteins were sold to a farm in South Carolina in 2007, and the Farm transitioned to beef, and Bob transitioned into a 2nd career- Ag Teacher/FFA Advisor.

Today we have a really nice herd of Angus/Hereford based cows with just enough Brangus influence who have to be trouble-free, bring a good calf every year and do it all on a grass/forage based diet. My belief is a heifer needs to have her 1st calf, without assistance, at 24 months of age and do it yearly for as long as she wants to stick around. THERE ARE NO EXCUSES! If you start making excuses for individuals, eventually you have a herd full of excuses!

My history makes me really enjoy the female side of the Beef business, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing a heifer crop develop into the right kind of cows
